The Task:
The objective of this project was to repair a structural hole and extensive surface abrasion on the seat cushion of a leather sofa. Constant friction had worn away the top coat and pigment, leaving the leather vulnerable and exposed. The primary challenge was twofold: first, reinforcing the hole to ensure a durable, long-term fix, and second, meticulously color-matching the repair to the sofa’s complex, multi-tonal brown finish without creating a “flat” or plastic appearance.
The Result:
The restoration was completed using a combination of sub-patching for the hole and specialized leather fillers to level the worn areas. Once the surface was stabilized, we applied custom-blended pigments using a layering technique to recreate the natural depth and marbling of the original leather. The final result is a seamless repair that is virtually invisible, restoring both the structural integrity and the rich, aesthetic appeal of the seat.
