Repairing Pet Claw Scratches & Abrasions

February 6, 2026

The Task:

A beautiful leather sofa had fallen victim to a pet’s natural instincts, leaving the side panel covered in unsightly claw scratches and deep abrasions. The damage wasn’t just superficial; the sharp claws had pierced the top coat and roughened the leather fibers, creating a fuzzy, worn texture that stood out against the smooth finish of the rest of the piece. Our goal was to smooth out the texture, repair the fiber damage, and perfectly match the original color and sheen to make the side panel look untouched.

The Result:

We successfully erased the evidence of “pet play” using a precision restoration process. First, we carefully sanded the burred leather fibers and applied a specialized leather filler to level out the deeper scratches. Once the surface was structurally sound and smooth to the touch, we custom-blended a pigment to match the sofa’s unique hue. After applying the color and a durable top-coat protector, the side of the sofa is now fully restored. It’s not just visually perfect—the reinforced finish is now better equipped to handle the rigors of a home with pets.
