’60s Mustang seat cover replacement

June 2, 2026

The Issue:

This ’60s Mustang had classic vinyl seats, but the driver’s side had badly torn seams. The best fix would have been a simple panel replacement, but finding an exact match for the vintage vinyl texture was impossible. Instead, we offered a better solution: sourcing and installing new aftermarket covers for both front seats so everything matches perfectly.

In The Process

We started by stripping the seats down to the bare foam and removing the old, torn vinyl covers. Before installing the new aftermarket covers, we had to do some prep work—sewing in the edge wires and trimming off the extra material around the corners to get the shape right.

The hardest part of the job was dealing with the fitment. Since these were aftermarket covers and not OEM, they didn’t line up perfectly out of the box. We had to spend a lot of time stretching, pulling, and tightening the material to smooth everything out and make sure there weren’t any loose wrinkles left behind.

Final Result:

The client was thrilled with how the car turned out—the new covers completely transformed the look of the interior back to its classic glory. Because vinyl is incredibly tough, these new covers are built to last a long time.

When the owner asked how to keep them looking this good, we gave them a funny but essential tip: use sunscreen! Since UV rays are the number one enemy of vinyl and cause it to dry out and crack over time, applying a good UV protectant (or even regular sunscreen cream) is the best way to keep the material soft, vibrant, and protected for years to come.
